First Impressions:
I thought that this picture was creative and out of the ordinary. I could clearly distinguish what was going on in the picture. It made me feel connected with nature especially because I love capturing the sun rise/ set.
Technical Quality:
The photographer’s use of the photographic triangle was well compensated considering the lighting during the time the photo was taken. It is definitely a little more noisy, if the iso would have been lowered even by a little bit, I think would have improved the quality of the photo. This would have been a great photo for nature/wildlife conservation or a fall picture. I think the lighting contributes to emphasizing the sun. I like the camera angle for this picture, I think that it was very well thought out. The quality of the picture is great, I like that the noise contributes to bringing out every single branch of the tree. There are definitely no distractions so your eyes quickly avert to the subject and I think that the colour of the background brings out the sun even more.
Composition:
I think that the depth of field was used effectively especially with the sun’s position in the background. The subject is highlighted in a way that it isn’t overly begging for your attention, it just instantly captures it. The background and the framing probably took a great deal of preparation. The photographer probably waited it out until the sun is perfectly placed in the middle of the frame and the colour of the background just right so that the contrast doesn’t affect how the sun’s opacity. His/her patience definitely reflected their work.
Emotional Appeal:
The picture gives a soothing, relaxing vibe. I would imagine seeing this framed and propped up in a wall of a yoga class or a massage parlor. This picture feels very realistic and genuine.
Specific Positives:
The picture does a very good way of telling a wildlife, scenic story. The feeling of being one with nature translates really well especially with how everything is placed. It is symmetrical and visually appealing. The photographer did an amazing job setting up the camera angle this picture was to be taken. I would say that this picture’s strongest aspect would be the contrast between the tree, the sun, and the sky. The clarity between these different aspects is exquisite.
Specific Improvements:
I feel that if the iso was bumped down by a little bit it would have eliminated the noise level. I don’t think that there is anything else that I would change in this photo.
Summary:
The aesthetic of this photograph gives such a serene feeling with its symmetry. The idea of capturing an image like this is really creative and the photographer’s artistic side really shines through. The contrast between the different objects in the picture is beautifully captured. If the ISO level had just been lowered, it would have produced an even better picture. Overall, this picture is mesmerizing and really gets you back to thinking about the simple beauty of Mother Nature.

First Impression:
The picture immediately makes me feel gross and uncomfortable. The meaning behind this picture did not jump to me as quick as the picture before did. The purpose of this picture is very unclear to me. At first glance, all the elements look very vivid and well lit.
Technical Quality:
In my opinion, the photographer did a great job utilizing the photographic triangle, especially with the shutter speed. The shutter speed was fast enough to capture a still of the waves but still show some movement. The aperture seems a bit off though, it seems as if the man and the water are almost blending in making the picture seem a little flat. The iso is just right, the noise contributes to making every detail pop like the guy’s bright blue polo. The lighting contributes in giving the waves some movement and giving his face dimension. The camera angle makes me feel uncomfortable, I think it could’ve been adjusted to lessen the creepy feel the picture gives off. The water is somewhat distracting, my eyes tend to look at the water more than the actual subject of the photograph.
Composition:
The depth of field of this picture could be well adjusted to emphasize the distance between the guy and the water. The focal point is really distracting and is off-putting. It just makes the whole photo awkward. Also, I feel that the background takes the spotlight away from the guy in the water. I seem to be more invested in the details of the background rather than the subject. I think this picture was just a spur in the moment kind of picture where not a lot of thought and preparation was given. It’s as if the guy just jumped in the water and the person who took this picture just wanted to take a picture just because.
Emotional Appeal:
I would say that this picture is not very appealing, physically nor emotionally. The way the guy’s stare was captured is very awkward. I definitely think that the emotions here were natural as I would assume that it is taken in the moment. The feeling the photographer was trying to get across is definitely realistic.
Specific Positives:
I think the photographer did a great job of using the water to enhance his picture. The strongest aspect of this photograph I would say is the motion blur created with the water. I like how you can see specific details in the water like the rocks very clearly. Although, the story didn’t translate very well through this picture. It is very confusing what the story or the message the photographer is trying to get across.
Specific Improvements:
The aperture could’ve been adjusted. A lower f-stop would’ve distinguished the subject and the background clearer. If the camera angle had been adjusted to the same level as the subject, a better picture would have been produced.
Summary:
Overall, I think that this photograph is so creepy and awkward to the point that it’s hilarious. I feel that if the photographer adjusted his position and put enough effort with the small details that this this picture could look more professional.

First impression:
The first thing that this picture made me think of was summer bonfires. It makes me feel nostalgic and warm. This picture’s lighting is adjusted well enough to see certain details in the background clearly. This image definitely makes me think about what the guy in the picture could have been thinking about when the picture was taken. It makes you think and the effect that the fire is giving off is very hypnotizing.
Technical Quality:
I think that the photographer utilized the photographic triangle very well. I like how it has some dimension to it. The value of the shutter speed really worked well for the picture. There is barely any noise so it makes for a really crisp image where every detail is defined. I know that the main focus of the picture is the fire which gives off a very warm effect to the photo and affects the colour of the lighting shown on the guy’s face. I feel that the lighting contributes to the overall feel of the picture. The camera angle is great. The motion blur given off by the fire creates movement to the object and it works really well for what the photographer seems to be going for.
Composition:
The negative and positive space is well balanced. I think that the depth of field was used effectively to create some distance between the background and subjects. I think that the background add a darker feel to the picture. The way that the picture is framed shows a great deal of preparation and thought.
Emotional Appeal:
It makes me feel like going back into the woods, pitching up a tent, and setting up a campfire of my own. It makes me feel cozy and warm as I was the one in the picture. The vibe I get from this picture seems realistic to what the photographer was going for. I would say that this was a candid picture and the emotion that is on the guy’s face is not at all forced.
Specific Positives:
I think that the photographer adjusted his camera setting really well based on his/her surroundings. I really like how they were able to still have clear image of the man despite the fact that they’re in front of a super distracting, bright source of light. I like the camera angle and the way of the elements of this picture was framed. The story the photographer was trying to get across was definitely transferred through this picture.
Specific Improvements:
Maybe if the iso could’ve been bumped up by a little bit the details, like the flames of the fire, the guy's face or even the background, would have been more prominent. Maybe adjust the white balance to normalize the warm tone the fire is giving off. Other than that, this picture is great.
Summary:
Overall, I feel that this photo is well rounded. You could tell that all of the photographic elements were taken in consideration. The photographer knew what they were doing because they were able to adjust with his or her surroundings. Art is supposed to make you feel something and this photo makes you think and reminisce on those warm summer nights.
