I feel that this is one of my absolute best works this semester. This photograph demonstrates how I have learned to utilize the photographic triangle. I remember taking this picture on a whim because it had just started snowing beautifully outside near the end of April which I have never experienced in the six years I have lived here in Canada. This photograph showcases my ability to adapt to my surroundings. Despite the cold and gloomy weather, I was able to produce a photo like this. This picture was taken near the middle of the semester and I had just realized how much the shutter speed, iSO and aperture affects how photos turn out. I didn’t have much of an experience in photography before this class. I had no idea how to work my dad’s DSLR camera so, when I had discovered the shutter speed feature I couldn’t wait to take cool pictures that look like they are stopping time. This was a candid shot. My sister was just playing around in the snow as I was adjusting my settings. I took a trial one and this was how it came out. I love how natural it looks. I like how the snow turned into little white ball specs. It looks beautiful and really stands out among the dark colours of the background. This photo could be improved by adjusting the camera angle to avoid including the fence and other unnecessary things on the right side. Or maybe a faster shutter speed, to capture the exact form of the snow.

I feel that this is one of my absolute best works this semester. This photograph demonstrates what I have learned in our lighting chapter and how it can affect the mood that the photograph gives off. This picture represents my growth as a photographer this semester by showing off how I was able to adjust my photographic triangle according to the lighting conditions and achieve the dramatic look I was going for. What makes this photograph specifically a thoughtful and skillful one is that it makes you feel some type of way. Whenever I look at this picture, it takes a while for me to move on to another picture. I feel that it is mesmerizing. There’s something about the look on Sydney’s face that seem natural to me, as if I could relate to what she could have been feeling right there and then. I tremendously enjoyed taking this picture. I like the way the light hits her face making it seem mysterious. I like how vibrant the colour of her shirt and her eyes are. I like how enhanced her features look especially her eyes. I definitely wish I could’ve achieved the catchlight effect on her eye. If I would’ve moved the light source more towards her left side, it could’ve created a better picture. If the background was more of a darker or even a solid colour, it would have emphasized her more as the subject of the picture. But other than that, I love this picture, it made me feel like a professional photographer and it definitely made me like taking portraits more.
